It's all about the aptitude - Zoopla and Rightmove leading mobile property search

There are more gadgets in the world than there are people, including a growing number that only communicate with other machines, according to data from digital analysts at GSMA Intelligence.

The number of active mobile devices and human beings crossed over somewhere around the 7.19 billion mark.
GSMA’s real-time tracker puts the number of mobile devices at 7.22 billion whilst the US Census Bureau says the number of people is still somewhere between 7.19 and 7.2 billion

Ok ok .. so what about the UK  ? , well a recent report published by the ONS office of national statistics C11: Use of selected mobile devices to access the Internet (individuals) found the following :

Mobile Internet is fast growing and is changing the nature of shopping, blurring the boundaries between online and offline sales (IMRG). Consumers search for products online while out shopping, comparing in-store prices with online offers, and downloading coupons and vouchers at the point of sale in store. The concept of the ‘store in the pocket’ has become important for retailers, yet the use of mobile telephony when shopping cross-border is being hindered by relatively high data roaming charges when outside the consumer’s home country.

  • In 2014, 68% of adults in Great Britain had accessed the Internet 'on the go' using a mobile phone and/or a portable computer. This was up from 58% of adults in 2012.
  • In 2014, the most popular device used to access the Internet ‘on the go’ was a mobile phone, with over half of all adults (58%) accessing the Internet this way.

Data can be found in the reference tables of the ICT Activity of UK Businesses release.
Estimates in this release relate to adults (16+) in Great Britain.

So what does that mean ,if your looking for property whether it’s renting or buying homes in the UK?.

Currently there are three property portals all vying for a position as the leading property website

All three have android and apple ITunes, mobile property search apps,

What’s interesting is Zoopla and Rightmove each have ,1M-5M downloads on Google play android mobile apps .

Compare that to onthemarket.com which only has 10-50K installs after 6 six months  [August 2015] from launching it’s site. and after 12 months  [February 2016 ] Installs 50,000 - 100,000

Exact download figures are hard to tally as for each app ,Google has many servers placed around the world.

Something as simple as counting the overall app downloads gets harder, since each of the servers should go through its massive database and count the number of installations for its region and then send that information to a central computer.

You can imagine that if this happened every second for every mobile application in Google Play, its servers would blow up. That is why the counting occurs once in a specified interval, probably a day or so.

And that is why Google Play does not show you the exact number of installations of an app. Instead, it tells you an estimate.

Apple in regards to their ITunes , Unfortunately, Apple only share the exact number of downloads for an app with the publishers of that specific app.

There are online sources that state a number of download apps, though unless the data has come from originator, it is very hard to verify, when trying to analyse findings.

Last week Zoopla  [August 11 2015 ] reported it is winning back agents after months of losing listings to a rival and expects the number of branches using the comparison site to grow further, it said on Wednesday.

Competitor OnTheMarket allows its members to list on only one other site. Many have opted for rival Rightmove, contributing to Zoopla losing around 25 percent of its agents in around a year.

But on last Wednesday Zoopla said it had added 213 new branches, taking its total to 12,556 at the end of July.

Chief Executive Alex Chesterman, who said he would stay at the firm which floated in June 2014 for at least the next four years, told reporters he expected Zoopla would continue to attract more estate agent branches.

"As every week and every month passes...as long as this restrictive rule (from OnTheMarket) stays in place which damages both the agent and the homeseller, we expect to see more and more agents return to us over the coming months," he said, without giving further details.

The firm also said price comparison service uSwitch, which it completed buying in June, was trading well following the acquisition.
