Apple acquires Mapsense

Apple last Friday acquired Mapsense, a San Francisco start up that builds tools for analysing and visualizing location data, according to multiple sources.

Apple paid somewhere between $25M and $30 M for the small team of twelve ,from San Francisco, which will now join the company.

Mapsense  started up in 2013 by founder Erez Cohen, who previous role was as an engineer for the data science company Palantir Technologies. Mapsense's platform and developer tools help organisations quickly ingest and analyse billions of rows of location data to make more intelligent, locally targeted business decisions across the organisation.  It’s cloud-based, naturally. The company launched its developer platform in May, welcoming customers from the financial services, marketing, government and Fortune 500 firms.
